Work continues on Amtrak station... sort of

Although the "drop dead date" for completion of the Amtrak platform in New Buffalo was originally May 15th, it may be weeks or longer, before the new station at Whittaker Street and Oselka Drive in New Buffalo is ready for public use. (7/3/09)

Some ArcelorMittal's industrial waste trucked to Three Oaks landfill

Burns Harbor, Indiana rejected a dumping request from ArcelorMittal steel mill this week. A company spokesman said they currently pay $3 million to $5 million to truck some of the ongoing production waste 70 miles to a landfill in the Three Oaks area. (6/25/09)

Townline Road bike path in Union Pier on the way

Chikaming Open Lands hires first executive director

State grants road funds for water park/conference center

TEDF funds will be used to make U.S. 12 improvements where R Development Group is planning a $120 million water park, conference center, and hotel. It is expected to create 333 jobs by 2011. (6/19/09)

Chamber seeks directors

The Harbor Country Chamber of Commerce is seeking candidates for its Board of Directors. The three year term of service begins in October. Emerald ash borer on destructive path

Arborists and tree nurseries are getting calls from homeowners looking for treatments to save trees damaged by the emerald ash borer. The insect is now in 14 states and parts of Canada, including Michigan & Indiana. The destruction is often spead when people transport firewood from one area to anoth.
